Vivian “NYC Gossip Girl” Billings

SB: Tell everyone a little bit about Vivian Billings.

VB: Vivian Billings is a wife, mother, sister, daughter, cousin, Virgo, and overall friend to those I love and cherish.

SB: Let’s rewind and go back to the beginning. How did this all start?

VB: Well, it started back in 2001 when I was a Talent Coordinator for the then popular “All Access” DVD Magazine. I was around a lot of your favorite celebrities witnessing things the average person couldn’t witness and that’s when I decided to start writing about my experiences. I started writing on Myspace, then I started writing for various websites and then I decided to start my own blog and turned that into a website.

SB: Did you ever want to be a serious journalist, as in a newspaper, or some sort of author?

VB: I never wanted to be a journalist because there was just too many politics behind that. However, I decided to become a blogger not only because it gave me freedom, but it also gave me an opportunity to reach out to the masses who wanted that quick information. I did want to be an author back in the day and hopefully maybe one day I’ll be able to do that in the near future.

SB: How did you end up in the Gossip section of entertainment?

VB: I ended up in the “Gossip” section of entertainment because who doesn’t like to gossip? People of all races gossip! Whether it be about a celebrity or an entertainer or the person down the block. People gossip! In the barbershops, hair salons, bodegas, or just hanging with friends people talk and I wanted to be the person that not only reported on what the streets were saying, but to also report what the celebrities had to say about the rumors being said about them.

SB: Is it hard being a wife and a mother and being in this industry?

VB: It is not hard being a wife and a mother in this industry. My duties as a wife and mother come before anything else in this world with the exception of Jesus! With that being said, I believe anything you want to do, you can do. You just have to sit down and ask yourself is this something that you really want to do with your life and just do it. Don’t get me wrong, there are times when I want to pull my hair out, but it all gets worked out in the end. Not to mention I have a great family unit that helps me out whenever I need it.

SB: Now starting April 1,2013 you’ll be part of a reality show from Executive Producer and CEO of Monami Entertainment Mona Scott-Young who worked on Missy Elliot’s Road to Stardom, Love & Hip Hop, and now “The Gossip Game”, tell us about that.

VB: Vh1’s “The Gossip Game” is a reality show about 7 different women in the Hip Hop entertainment industry who report on the gossip. The show touches upon our careers in Hip Hop, how what we do affects our personal lives and relationships with the artists we talk about and how we get along with each other. It’s been one hell of a journey! I’ll say that!

SB: Is the rest of the cast the catty competition or do you actually all get along?

VB: I wouldn’t say the cast is catty because pretty much the entire cast is cool. However, you do have some folks (who will remain nameless) that just like to test people and disrespect people. Some think they’re better than others and I’ll just leave it at that. šŸ™‚

SB: Would you go back and change what field you went into or go back and pick a different career in life?

VB: There are no regrets with me when it comes to my career. Anything I’ve ever done career wise put me in the position that I am today. And I consider myself to be blessed!

SB: What advice would you give someone would wants to do what you do?

VB: The advice I would give to anyone is to be consistent and professional. Some people are not consistent with what their passions are. Most people tend to give up just when they are about to receive their blessing. I’ve been in this game since 2001!! Its 2013!! I’m just now getting shine and that took 12 years!! So never giving up (I know it sounds corney) but it’s the very key to success.

SB: Where will I see Vivian Billings in 5 years?

VB: Vivian Billings in 5 years will be on the radio and doing more TV!
