Free At Last

After decades of imprisonment, 74 year old Oscar Lopez Rivera, after serving 36 years in federal prison convicted of “seditious conspiracy”, will be freed from his 70 year sentence, 4 months from today on May 17, 2017 instead of the end of his sentence that would’ve ended June 26, 2023 months after his 80th birthday.

Lin-Manuel Miranda, creator of Broadway play “Hamilton” emotionally tweeted today:

Oscar Lopez Rivera was a member of the Fuerzas Armadas de Liberación Nacional or F.A.L.N. which translates into Armed Forces of National Liberation, the group accused of 140 bombings on military bases, government offices and financial buildings of which he denied involvement.

Oscar Lopez Rivera looks forward to going to Chicago to visit his family, and then plans to return to Puerto Rico to continue its fight for independence.
